Our client is one of the largest financial groups in Canada, with several subsidiary companies in both Life and General Insurance. A leader in Canadian Property and Casualty Insurers, and one of the largest employers in Canada, our client is seeking to add an Intermediate to Senior Lawyer Corporate lawyer with a minimum of 5 years experience to provide legal services to the Property and Casualty Insurance Group.

Working closely with the General Counsel, the successful candidate will provide Corporate Legal Services to the Property and Casualty Insurance operations of the Company, with respect to their various business units including: Marketing, Underwriting, Actuarial, Business Development, Sales and Distribution, Billing, Claims and Corporate Projects.


Your responsibilities will include:

- Providing support and advice to the different units within the organization with respect to the interpretation and applications of laws, regulation, standards, policies and guidelines
- Analyzing, interpreting and monitoring changes to applicable legislation and regulations
- Assisting in negotiations of contracts and agreements
- Providing legal advice with respect to policy wordings and endorsements, as well as legal opinions with respect to policy coverage and wording interpretations
- Reviewing and providing legal advice and opinions in relation to regulatory and legal issues arising in the course of property and casualty insurance operations to ensure statutory compliance


You are the ideal candidate if you:
- Have an LL.B. or J.D. from a recognized university
- Have a Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (Expertise in Casualty and Property Law required)
- Have a good working knowledge of property and casualty insurance products, legislation and regulations specifically in Ontario
- Are in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada
- Knowledge of French is an asset but not required
- Adept at working both independently or in a multi-disciplinary team environment and possess high ethical work standards
