Are you tired of working in the grind of Big Law? Looking for an opportunity to jump start your career in-house? Our client, a leader in the Canadian reinsurance marketplace is in a growth phase and is looking for a self-starter and motivated corporate commercial lawyer to join their Toronto team as Legal Counsel. In this role, you will be responsible for providing support to the General Counsel on all Canadian legal matters and will be an integral part of the legal and risk management department.

Responsibilities will include:
• managing the development and implementation of reinsurance documentation for new and existing business,
• drafting and reviewing documents for appropriate wording/language;
• liaising with internal stakeholders including pricing, marketing and operations,
• researching and advising the business on all Canadian regulatory matters,
• reviewing vendor/other contracts, dealing with general legal queries- IT, HR etc
• performing annual/quarterly legal compliance activities;
• providing legal support regarding disputed claims or other client disputes

Exigences:

You are the ideal candidate if you:
• Have 4 years + legal experience practicing corporate/commercial law

• JD/LLB and member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada

• Have experience reviewing and drafting contracts and complex commercial agreements and/or transactions, preferably from a financial services environment (reinsurance, insurance, investments, banking) 

• Have knowledge and understanding of Canadian financial services regulation preferably in an insurance context

• Understanding of issues affecting the life reinsurance industry is an asset

• Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision, yet team player and collaborative

• Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills

• Show initiative, flexibility and resourcefulness

• Are able to manage challenging deadlines and prioritize effectively
• Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
