Our client, an industry leader in the marketing & advertising sector, is looking for a Senior Manager of Labour Relations to advise and oversee the administration of labour agreements. The successful candidate will lead collective bargaining negotiations, handle grievances, prepare briefs for arbitration cases, and represent the organization in dealings with government agencies (i.e. Labour Relations Board(s)). This individual will also advise on the application of federal and provincial legislation and perform ad hoc responsibilities, as required. • Establish, maintain, and foster solid working relationships with union representatives and senior management to promote a co-operative and effective labour relations climate.
• To be the Company Spokesperson and team leader in negotiating specific collective agreements and to settle labour conflicts.
• Monitor and ensure adherence to all contract provisions.
• Promote a positive, inclusive work environment through educating stakeholders and through the timely resolution of issues in accordance with legislation, company policies, and the collective agreements.
• Interpret union-management agreements and represent management in the negotiation and settlement of grievances under established grievance procedures.
• Research and participate in negotiating labour contracts that maximize management's flexibility and objectives.
• Manage HR legal issues and engage in other human resources functions such as recruitment, training, and related activities as required.
• Review new and existing employment policies and practices developing policies in adherence with the company culture and goals.
• Develop and recommend corporate policy changes as necessary to ensure compliance with applicable laws
• Promote and support company goals aimed at increasing productivity and profitability, improving morale, reducing absenteeism, etc.


• Bachelor/Master’s degree in Law, Industrial/Labour Relations or related discipline
• Minimum 6 years’ experience in labour relations, in particular as a lead negotiator in collective bargaining and Company Spokesperson as well as experience in arbitration case preparation and presentation
• Strong knowledge of employment and other provincial and federal legislative requirements
• Strong negotiating abilities, situational sensitivity skills and superior written and oral communications skills
• Results-oriented and takes initiative
• Able to work well under pressure, in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision
• Strategic and tactical planning ability and able to bring solutions
• Coaching and facilitation skills, able to build relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
• Excellent investigative, analytical, and decision making skills
• Able to navigate and handle ambiguity
• Team player, willing to “pitch in” and take on ad hoc responsibilities when required
