Our client, a global software company, is looking to add a Copyright Licensing and Contracts Counsel to its team in Toronto.

The successful candidate is responsible for providing end-to-end support and advice in the negotiation of a large suite of copyright licensing agreements with both licensors and licensees. Working closely with the Regional Senior Vice President of Operations and Content Licensing, the role involves supporting all stages of the drafting and negotiating process and providing related legal advice. As required, the role also involves joining with the wider Contracts Team to give more general contractual and legal support to teams across the business. Fluency in English and French is required.


The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:  

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Law, Business Administration or a related field.
LL.B/J.D. and member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (or other Common Law jurisdiction).
2-5 years of experience working as a lawyer (in Canada or an equivalent jurisdiction), drafting, revising and negotiating commercial contracts within a corporate setting is required.
Experience working with and negotiating copyright licensing agreements, with a strong understanding of Canadian/Common Law copyright law and practice, is required.
Fluency in both English and French, oral and written, is required.
Knowledge and/or experience of the Canadian media monitoring (or similar) licensing landscape is preferred.
Working knowledge and/or experience of Quebec contract law is an asset.Working knowledge of specific Canadian commercial legal topics, such as the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and Freedom of Information and Privacy Act, is an asset.
Proven ability to work with key internal stakeholders at various levels of the organizational.
Working knowledge of MS Office Suite is required. Basic knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM software is preferred.
