Job Description:

Our client, a leading National law firm is seeking a Knowledge and Innovation Lawyer to lead the implementation of the firm’s Knowledge and Innovation Strategies and to support practicing lawyers across the firm’s Business Law Groups.

Reporting into the Director of Knowledge and Innovation, the successful candidate will work closely with the corporate group’s practicing lawyers and members of the business development team as well as IT and legal project managers to promote and support a culture of creativity and modernization transforming how clients and lawyers work and collaborate.

In helping establish the firm as a leader in the profession by enhancing their end-to-end service delivery model through the leveraging of knowledge, innovation and market-leading technologies and by identifying high impact changes to the service delivery model and through reimagining client solutions, your responsibilities will include:

The Knowledge and Innovation Lawyer will be Responsible for:

1. Designing and implementing the Practice Groups Innovation Projects, and owning the KM program of the Groups firm-wide.
- Aid in developing and implementing improved tools to keep the firm ahead of the competition and top of mind with clients.
- Work on legal project management and implementation, and process improvement and practice support
- Identifying both practice-facing and client-facing opportunities for legal service delivery innovation.

2. Driving the Practice Group’s Knowledge Management Program.
- You will develop/source content & manage that content, including: precedents, templates, checklists, & practice support tools.

3. Acting as Innovation Thought Leader
-You will monitor and keep abreast of industry developments in legal innovation and keep firm leadership apprised of developments & help determine whether they are viable as it relates to the firm.


The ideal candidate will:
• Be a lawyer admitted to a Canadian Bar with 5-7 years of Business Law practice experience
• Have experience in both project implementation and practice support (including the use of technology and development of key practice support tools).
• Have strong client management and teamwork skills
• Have demonstrable experience in legal technologies and the ability to deliver on traditional knowledge management mandates
• Excellent legal research, drafting and writing skills
• A strong knowledge of substantive law (in relation to Corporate Law), and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Visio for Legal Process mapping and an understanding of databases and big data analysis.
• Six Sigma, Lean or PMP training is not required but is favourable, as is bilingualism.
