Are you able to translate your years of hands-on experience and know-how into practical useful tools that assist other lawyers with their practice? We want to hear from you! Our client, a prestigious international company is looking to add a Senior Commercial Real Estate Lawyer- to their Toronto team. This role has some flexibility allowing the right candidate to work at home part-time if desired.

Working as part of the commercial products team, you will be responsible for drafting valuable “savoir-faire” content for the Canadian legal market. These new products provide practical knowledge to the legal community by breaking down complex legal information into useful tools that help legal practitioners improve law firm or in-house efficiencies.

The role will include:

• developing ideas for commercial real estate content for Canadian practitioners and businesses that address law and practice;
• establishing, maintaining, and managing extensive relationships with external law firm contributors who have expertise on commercial real estate issues;
• drafting, writing, and editing content, including checklists, practice guidance notes, and templates and precedents according to the organization’s writing style;
• developing, maintaining and fostering relationships with law firm lawyers, in-house counsel, and industry groups to ensure that all content is topical and meets their needs;
• supporting commercial real estate content and product development projects;
• assisting the sales team by participating in sales calls and demonstrating service to potential subscribers;
• assisting the marketing team by participating in webinars and creation of educational programs.
• monitoring legal practice and market developments;


You are the ideal candidate if you have:

• An LL.B/ JD, and membership in a Canadian Bar;
• 10+ years’ experience working as a commercial real estate lawyer in a prestigious law firm or in-house; (More experience is welcomed!!)
• Expertise in a broad range of commercial real estate transactions including:
o Experience representing and advising purchasers and/or sellers in a variety of commercial real property purchase and sale transactions, including drafting, negotiating and reviewing purchase and sale agreements and other related documentation and advising on legal issues, search requirements, deal structures and market practice.
o Experience representing landlords and tenants in a broad range of commercial real estate lease transactions, including drafting and negotiating commercial leases and advising on legal issues and market practice.
o Experience representing and advising lenders and/or borrowers in commercial real estate loan transactions, including drafting, negotiating and reviewing documents and advising on legal issues, deal structures and market practice related to commercial real estate loan transactions.
• Comprehensive understanding of current legal and market issues.
• Ability to analyze and draft summaries of legal and market developments quickly.
• Significant practice experience in one or more of the following areas is an advantage:
o Project financing; REIT's; Project Development; Construction; Infrastructure
• Excellent drafting and writing skills, good editing skills, and a very close attention to detail;
• The ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply, in plain English;
• Enthusiasm and ambition with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services
• good understanding of the needs and priorities of law firms and in-house counsel and the legal market;
• English fluency, and a passion for writing and, including an impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English;
• Exceptional time management, planning and organizational skills.
• The ability to manage multiple competing deadlines
