What is your Current role at Life After Law?

I am the President and Founder of Life after Law. This is my baby!

Tell Us a little bit about yourself…

I was born in Montreal, and grew up in Toronto, where I live with my 2 kids. I have spent a great deal of time travelling throughout my life. I even took a 6 month break early on in my career to travel. But none of it has been as much of an adventure as raising my 2 teenage kids! Everyday now is an adventure!

Where did you go to Law School? Did you always imagine yourself going to Law School/Being a lawyer?

I went to law school at Osgoode Hall. I was one of those people that already knew in high school what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to be a lawyer, and I knew what area of law I wanted to practice. Or, I guess I thought I knew…. Funny how things work out!

When did you realize that you wanted your career to go in a different direction?

It was during my first year of practice that I realized that practising law wasn’t really for me. That’s when the journey began, of figuring out what I did want to do.

How did you make that transition?

I started to make the transition by taking time off to travel. When I returned, I started to look at career options. I got my first exposure to what I would come to call a “quasi-legal” role. That got me thinking about all the things that lawyers could do in addition to traditional practice. I was fortunate to get the opportunity to learn about recruitment in a different industry. That’s when I came up with the concept of Life After Law and began focusing on recruitment for lawyers who were also looking to make broader use of their legal backgrounds.

Did you have any Mentors or Role Models that helped you out along the way?

I have to give a lot of credit to my father. He was a true entrepreneur. He was always so supportive when I started my company, and he loved that I was doing something new and different. We used to talk business all the time, and he was so supportive of me following in his entrepreneurial footsteps.

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

I love that I get to talk to so many different people every day. Everyone has such an interesting story to share. I really love the idea of being able to take a client’s vision of the perfect candidate and then using my sleuthing skills to uncover the perfect fit. No two days are ever the same.

What would you do if you had an extra day in your week?

If I could get an extra day in my week, I would figure out a way to put all those extra days together and go on another great adventure.

What do you do in your Free time?

I enjoy travelling, boxing, concerts and spending time with my family and friends.
