Director, Legal Support Services

Overview

Our client, a top-tier National law firm is currently seeking a Director, Legal Support Services for a 12-month contract role based in either Toronto or Montreal. This role offers the opportunity to manage a team oversee department-wide initiatives and shape the delivery of legal support services across the country. This is a hybrid position.
 
As a key member of the firm's business operations leadership, you'll manage a team of people managers, drive process improvement initiatives, and ensure the delivery of consistent and efficient legal support services across the country. You'll also work closely with senior leadership to shape strategy, oversee staffing, and lead performance management and training initiatives.
 
 
Responsibilities      
 
 
This role will include:  
  • Building and mentoring a high-performing management team aligned with national and regional goals.
  • Overseeing recruitment processes of Practice Support Teams within budget.
  • Managing implementing and execution of firm policies and processes related to performance, compensation, training, and employee relations.
  • Managing employee relations risks and advising management of sensitive employee matters,
  • Promoting the value of Legal Support Services across the firm.
  • Developing and managing the departmental budget, ensuring alignment with financial goals.
  • Partnering with other departments to ensure an ongoing talent pipeline and support staff development.
  • Prioritizing projects and allocating resources based on firm goals.
  • Monitoring feedback and metrics from lawyers and paraprofessionals to identify trends and improve Team performance and efficiency.
  • Coordinating with National Practice Group Leaders and Regional Managing Partners to ensure optimal support is provided firm wide.
  • Ensuring execution of legal support efficiency projects, securing corporate commitment and buy-in.
  • Overseeing the contribution of Continuous Improvement Committees
  • Building strong internal and external network to support cross functional collaboration effectiveness and promote the firm's reputation.
 
Requirements      
 
 
You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
  • Degree in a related field such as Business Administration, Human Resources, Law
  • 8+ years of professional experience in administration
  • 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Experience in professional services industry, legal industry preferred.
  • Experience in organizational change management and team building.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical reasoning and critical thinking.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is a strong asset
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure and a professional attitude in challenging situations.
  • Availability to attend events scheduled outside of core business hours as may be required to meet with team members.
