Law Clerk/ Paralegal - Civil Litigation
Overview
Our client, a collegial litigation firm with a focus on insurance defence litigation is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Law Clerk or Paralegal to their team. This is a full-time position ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative legal environment and takes pride in accuracy, organization, and client service.
Responsibilities
This role will include:
- Advising clients on legal proceedings
- Interviewing clients, witnesses and other related parties
- Performing clerical duties, such as maintain filing systems
- Scheduling discoveries, motions, mediations, and pre-trials between counsel, clients, and the courts
- Researching records, court files and other legal documents
- Drafting legal correspondence
- Administering oaths, taking affidavits, and depositions
- Supporting lawyers in preparing for mediations and judicial dispute resolution sessions
- Coordinating and monitoring procedural timelines to ensure compliance with court rules
- Maintaining accurate and confidential client files and legal records
- Communicating proactively with clients to provide updates and manage expectations
- Collaborating with lawyers and staff to ensure high-quality file management
Requirements
You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
- Completion of a Law Clerk or Paralegal Program with certificate;
- At least 3-5 years of experience in civil litigation (More experience welcomed!)
- Strong knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Strong drafting skills, efficiency, and effective case handling
- Experience with electronic filing and court systems (e.g., Case Centre) is essential
- Defense-side experience is not required, but familiarity with litigation workflows is expected
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management software for scheduling and document preparation
- Reliable, client-focused, and able to work both independently and collaboratively
- Recognized for accuracy, file ownership, and proactive case management
