Wills & Estates Lawyer

Overview

Our client, a top-tier full-service firm in downtown Toronto, is seeking an experienced Wills & Estates Lawyer to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer who is committed to excellence in estate planning, estate administration, and/or estate litigation, and who is looking to contribute to a busy, sophisticated practice.  This is a Hybrid role.
 
The role will include:
  • Managing files independently, including estate planning, estate administration matters, guardianship matters, powers of attorney, wills, and/or estate litigation.
  • Drafting a full range of estate-planning documents, including wills, powers of attorney, trusts, secondary/supplemental wills, and complex planning instruments.
  • Overseeing estate administration files, including preparing court applications, advising estate trustees, addressing beneficiary issues, and navigating tax and accounting considerations.
  • Providing strategic legal advice to clients, families, and business owners on succession planning, wealth transfer, and risk management.
  • Supporting senior counsel on complex, high-value, or multi-party matters, offering research, drafting, and litigation support as required.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships, offering timely communication, practical problem-solving, and exceptional client service.
  • Contributing to the growth of the practice, including mentoring junior team members, participating in business development, and managing workflow efficiently.
  • Handling estate litigation matters (for Litigation lawyers)
 
You are the ideal candidate if you have/are: 
  • J.D.,  and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 5-10 years of experience practicing in Wills & Estates, including estate planning, estate administration, and/or estate litigation. (More experience welcomed!)
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and legal research skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage files independently from initial consultation through to completion.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client-management skills.
  • Superior work ethic, professionalism, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong academic credentials and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • A partial book is an asset but not required.
