Commercial Litigation Associate (5 -7 Years)

Overview


This is an exciting opportunity with an up-and-coming firm looking to add Commercial Litigation Associate (5-7 year call) for their growing team in the Greater Vancouver area. This role is designed for an independent, driven lawyer who is looking to build a strong and sustainable commercial litigation practice outside of a traditional big-law environment, while continuing to work on sophisticated, high-value matters.
 
The successful candidate will be entrusted with significant responsibility and autonomy, with active mentorship from senior lawyers and clear opportunities for long-term advancement.
 
They will be involved in all stages of commercial litigation—from strategy and client management through to hearings, trials, and resolution—and will work on matters with both domestic and cross-border dimensions.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and assist with a broad range of commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, real estate and property litigation, lending and insolvency-related disputes, and other business conflicts;
  • Draft pleadings, affidavits, applications, briefs, and written submissions;
  • Conduct legal research and provide strategic analysis on complex legal and factual issues;
  • Prepare for and attend discoveries, mediations, hearings, and trials;
  • Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and third parties;
  • Assist with settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution;
  • Collaborate closely with partners and other team members on litigation strategy and case management.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Have a JD or LLB and be a member in good standing of the Bar of British Columbia.
  • 5-8 years of commercial litigation experience
  • Demonstrated experience handling commercial litigation matters with increasing levels of responsibility;
  • Exposure to cross-border disputes, financial litigation, or complex commercial transactions is an asset;
  • Ability to manage files independently, including developing litigation strategy and supervising junior lawyers or support staff where appropriate;
  • Strong advocacy, legal research, and drafting skills;
  • Experience appearing before various levels of court
  • Comfort working directly with clients and taking ownership of client relationships;
  • Interest in business development and growing a personal litigation practice;
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, sound judgment, and a high degree of professionalism.
