Wills & Estates Law Clerk

Overview

Our client is a well-established and highly regarded law firm seeking an experienced Wills & Estates Law Clerk to support their Wills and Estates practice.

Responsibilities
 
This role will include:
 
Client & file management
  • Opening, closing, and billing files
  • Acting as a direct point of contact with clients to gather the details needed for wills and estate planning matters
  • Coordinating calendars for intake calls, client meetings, and internal conferences
Estate planning
  • Drafting initial versions of estate planning documents for Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia
  • Updating drafts based on client and lawyer feedback
  • Attending and witnessing Will executions
  • Scanning, storing, and distributing copies of signed documents
  • Drafting reporting letters and handling next steps after execution
Estate administration
  • Reaching out to financial institutions to gather information needed for administration files
  • Preparing probate applications
  • Drafting supporting documents such as releases, consents, and indemnities
Organization & practice support
  • Keeping digital and physical client files organized, including lawyer email and document management
  • Maintaining and updating the Wills vault inventory
  • Helping build precedent documents and administration checklists
  • Providing overflow support to other practice groups as needed
  • Assisting with general administrative tasks in the Toronto office
 
 
Requirements
 
You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
 
  • Certification as a Law Clerk from an accredited program
  • 5-7 years' experience in Wills and Estates law preferred
  • A collaborative mindset — comfortable building strong working relationships with lawyers and staff both in person and virtually
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Sharp attention to detail and strong reading comprehension
  • A self-starter who's dependable, discreet, and able to exercise sound judgment under pressure
  • Comfort managing competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with Clio and NetDocs is an asset

The expected compensation range is: $80,000-90,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Total compensation will include base salary and other benefits.
