Human Resources Manager
Overview
Our Client, a boutique national law firm, is looking to add a Human Resources Manager to its team. This person would be supporting the Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver offices and can sit in either Toronto or Calgary. Reporting to the CEO, this person will be responsible for key organizational and staffing issues, providing strategic input on people and culture initiatives, and managing day-to-day HR operations.Your role will include:
- Serving as the first point of contact for all day-to-day human resources matters and providing timely, practical guidance to staff and leadership.
- Aligning roles and tasks to ensure every team member is operating at their highest and best use, reassigning or eliminating misplaced work through regular reviews.
- Partnering with practice leads to translate documented workflows into staffing models, including role definitions, capacity targets, and hiring triggers as the firm scales.
- Owning the firm's onboarding and training program, building repeatable playbooks tied to documented processes with defined ramp-up targets for new hires.
- Designing and managing the talent pipeline and retention infrastructure to support the firm's growth and acquisition strategy.
- Forecasting staffing needs to match practice areas and growth strategies including overseeing the onboarding and offboarding of all employees.
- Working closely with the Management Committee to champion the firm's vision and business plan, translating strategic priorities into clear operational actions across the team.
- Ensuring staff members understand how their roles connect to the firm's direction, and reinforcing that alignment through regular communication, coaching, and feedback loops.
- Overseeing annual performance reviews, structure competitive benefit packages, and administering salary benchmarking relevant to the Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver legal market.
- Providing input to the senior leadership team on the organizational strategy, ensuring the HR framework supports the firm's entrepreneurial and growth-oriented goals.
- Ensuring all HR policies adhere to the employment standards of each jurisdiction and comply with health and safety standards.
- Managing the budget, navigating our HRIS system and reporting to the leadership team on trends, turnover, and workflow.
- Maintaining a knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment and human resources fields.
- Other administrative and HR duties as required.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in Human Resources
- Industry experience in a professional office setting is an asset (Legal, Accounting, Engineering, etc.)
- Post-secondary degree and/or certificate from a recognized HR program
- CPHR or equivalent designation is an asset
- Experience with an HRIS system (BambooHR, Rise, Humi, etc)
- Excellent communication skills (spoken, written)
- Excellent interpersonal skills
This is an active opening for a current role.
The expected salary range between $110,000 and $120,000 dependent on seniority. Total compensation can include bonus or incentives.
