Law Clerk / Legal Assistant - Mortgage Enforcement
Overview
Our client, a well-established law firm with a busy lending and recovery practice, is seeking an experienced Law Clerk / Legal Assistant to join its Mortgage Enforcement practice.This is an excellent opportunity for a legal support professional with hands-on experience managing secured mortgage enforcement matters on behalf of financial institutions. The successful candidate will support lawyers throughout the enforcement process and will be comfortable managing files independently while working as part of a collaborative legal team.
Responsibilities
The role will include:
- Assisting lawyers with secured mortgage enforcement matters on behalf of financial institutions;
- Preparing and processing demand letters, notices of sale, statements of claim, default judgment materials, motion records, writs of possession, and related documentation;
- Managing mortgage enforcement files throughout various stages of the recovery and litigation process;
- Preparing, reviewing, formatting, and organizing legal documents and correspondence;
- Monitoring deadlines and ensuring required documentation and procedural steps are completed accurately and on time;
- Maintaining organized and up-to-date electronic and physical files;
- Communicating professionally with lawyers, clients, courts, and other parties involved in the enforcement process;
- Working independently on assigned matters while collaborating with lawyers and other members of the team; and
- Taking initiative to ensure files continue to progress efficiently.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 3–5 years of experience working with secured mortgage enforcement files on behalf of financial institutions;
- A Law Clerk or Legal Assistant Diploma/Certificate from a recognized institution;
- Practical experience preparing mortgage enforcement and related litigation documentation;
- Strong knowledge of mortgage enforcement procedures and file management;
- Experience with FCT and/or Litigation/Collection Highway considered a strong asset;
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple files and deadlines;
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy;
- The ability to work with minimal supervision and take initiative when required; and
- A collaborative and professional approach to working within a busy legal practice.
This is an active opening for a current role.
The expected compensation range is: $75,000- $ 90,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Total compensation will include base salary and other benefits.
