Our client, a leading insurance organization, is seeking a litigator (preferably with insurance litigation experience) to join their team as Legal Counsel.

As Counsel, the Successful Candidate will work on claims related to legal defence matters for the company and its insureds and provide legal advice on policy and technical issues to the Claims division.

Responsibilities

The Successful Candidate will:
• Handle a solid case load of files
• Take on court and court related appearances including; trial, chambers, mediation and examinations for discovery
• Have a thorough understanding of litigation procedures as well as a good understanding of alternative settlement techniques such as mediation.
• Provide cost effective legal advice and services to the company’s claim staff and analysis of legal files

Requirements

• An LLB or J.D.
• Must be a member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia
• Prior Litigation/Legal Practice experience (preferably in the insurance industry!)
• Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to understand, utilize and communicate complicated, diversified or highly technical legal concepts/ theories/practices;
• Strong file management skills
• The ability to work in a team-based environment
