Litigation Associate Lawyer

Overview

Our client, a high tech growing litigation law firm, is seeking to add a Litigation Associate Lawyer to their team, with experience in one or more of the following areas of civil litigation: real estate, estates and corporate/commercial litigation.
  
  
Responsibilities:
  
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  
  • Managing own set of files (from start to finish)
  • Working closely with the Principal Lawyer (Co-counsel) on bigger files and court proceedings
  • Preparing All draft materials and/or all materials required for discoveries and/or hearings
  • Conducting or assisting on Discoveries, Motions, Applications and Trials
  • Communicating with all parties that form part of the caseload
  • Scheduling all matter dates required, with the assistance of the legal assistant
  • Organizing matters in accordance with Company policies
  • Assisting Office Manager and legal assistant with duties related to Client Relationship Management.
  
Requirements:
  
You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
  
  • Good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • 7 to 15+ Years of Experience (more experience is welcome!) working on civil litigation in the above-mentioned areas.
  • In-Depth and Strong Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and the Court of Justice Act, etc
  • Ability to navigate through the courts (zoom and in person)
  • Had attended court for the following (motions, case conferences, trials)
  • Had drafted claims, defences, applications, motions, affidavits and factums
  • Had an experience working with experts when preparing for the cases
  • Had an experience preparing clients for the upcoming hearings
  • Complies with and keeps up-to-date with practice directions
  • Had used ACL, LexisNexis, WestLaw, CanLii, Cosmolex, and other litigation assistance software and has a superior understanding of Caselines
  • Can use Teraview, ESC, and other databases and had experience running various searches
  • Can use all Microsoft Office tools (OneDrive, Outlook, etc.), Advanced PDF, and
  • Advanced Negotiation and Client Interviewing Skills.
  • (Any previous experience with legal practice management software and other practice-based legal software would be an asset - please provide details in your response).
  • Any examples of prior work (e.g. published cases, any research work/papers/articles written on legal topics – would be an asset).
  • This will be a full-time contract position performed on-site at the office location, but there might be occasional availability to work remotely.
