Personal Injury Associate

Overview

Our client, a well-established boutique Personal Injury firm is looking to grow its Toronto office. They are looking for a Personal Injury Junior Associate Lawyer with 3 or more years’ experience (more experience is welcome!) in plaintiff personal injury or insurance defence.

  
This is an exciting opportunity for a Personal Injury Junior lawyer, to join a dynamic firm and further grow their practice in a professional, collegial and collaborative firm environment.
  
  
Responsibilities:
In this role you will be responsible for:
  
  • Provide candid, strategic advice to a diverse range of clients.
  • Positively engage your team and conduct regular file reviews to effectively plan and manage each case.
  • Draft a range of documents including facta, opinion letters, settlement conference memoranda, pleadings and various applications.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Attend examinations for discovery, case conferences, mediations, IBC and other insurance conferences, motions, appeals, pre-trial conferences, trials, and mediations/arbitrations and other hearings at the LAT, etc.
  • Attend settlement negotiation.
  
Requirements:
You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:
  
  • 3+ years experience (more experience welcome!).
  • Law Degree (JD or LLB) from an accredited Canadian Law School.
  • A Law Degree from another common law jurisdiction.
  • Applicants who obtained their law degree outside of Canada must be approved by the NCA.
  • A member in good standing with LSO.
  • Able to manage a practice on your own.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and interest in personal injury law.
  • Client-centric focused with a proven passion to make a difference.
  • Solution and client service-oriented.
  • The ability to independently research and analyze applicable law and matters.
  • Mediation and trial experience are an asset.
  • Insurance defence experience would be an asset.
  • Experience in Small Claims Court, the License Appeal Tribunal, and Superior Court.
  • Strong legal research skills and the ability to synthesize information into clear and persuasive legal argument.
