Overview

Our client, a leading litigation firm, is seeking an experienced lawyer to join the firm as a Pricing Manager. Reporting to the Managing Director, Strategic Planning, the Pricing Manager will be responsible for creating matter budgets and fee arrangements while advising lawyers on the principles of pricing, profitability, and client values.


Responsibilities

The Role will Include:

Setting the price:

• Collaborating with lawyers and business leaders to develop budgets and fee arrangements
• Supporting business development team by advising and delivering on pricing strategies
• Advising lawyers and business leaders on pricing options and profit principles
• Extracting and analyzing historical data to support budget and fee arrangement recommendations
• Developing financial models to support budget and fee arrangement recommendations
• Effectively communicating relevant analysis to lawyers and business leaders
• Delivering budgets and fee arrangements in a timely manner

Monitoring the price:

• Reviewing the performance of all existing budgets and fee arrangements
• Identifying opportunities for enhancing current and future performance
• Proactively advising lawyers and finance to ensure no surprises for lawyers or clients
• Developing metrics and reporting tools to clearly illustrate trends and analysis in pricing performance at practice, client, and firm levels

Leading & managing people:

• Driving the development and monitoring of budgets and fee arrangements through positive collaboration with Pricing Analyst, lawyers, and business leaders
• Leading and developing the Pricing Analyst through monthly one-on-one meetings and daily coaching and mentoring

Providing outstanding client service:

• Consistently responding to all firm members in a timely manner, with a sense of urgency
• Proactively driving the price setting and monitoring process, with persistence to see through to completion
• Coaching and educating lawyers on pricing principles
• Becoming recognized as the internal pricing expert and point person for all pricing needs

Driving pricing improvement:

• Developing and maintaining the process for capturing and leveraging historical data to better forecast budgets and fee arrangements
• Developing and maintaining processes, templates, checklists, and internal communications
• Developing policies, procedures, and documentation
• Develop modeling methodologies
• Developing and delivering internal training and references materials
• Participating in the annual standard rate setting process
• Collaborating on establishing systems to improve setting and management of discounts
• Remaining informed about global and legal pricing trends and best practices

Demonstrating Results:

• Developing monthly reports on client and matter performance against budgets and fee arrangements
• Developing monthly reports on Pricing results including price setting, monitoring, client service and improvements

Requirements

You are the ideal candidate if you have/are:

• In-depth understanding litigation service delivery processes
• Mastery of financial modeling
• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, or statistics
• JD/LL.B or equivalent experience
• A minimum of five years legal experience
• Advanced Excel skills
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• An understanding of pricing principles, legal service delivery process and client values to arrive at recommendations
• Ability to set, prioritize and deliver on all commitments
• Skilled at planning, prioritizing, and delivering results
• Able to motivate the team, demonstrate flexibility, and find solutions to challenges
• Able to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders to problem solve and improve processes
