Overview

Our client, a Government Agency is seeking to add a full-time Privacy Advisor with a minimum of 2 years in a privacy environment. This position is Ottawa-based / Hybrid.


Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Information Management, Privacy and ATIP, the Privacy Advisor is responsible for overseeing privacy deliverables in support of corporate projects and providing ongoing consultation for operational activities within the organization. The Privacy Advisor performs all other duties and responsibilities related to the position as required.

Privacy Impact Assessments :
- Conduct privacy impact assessments and organizational reviews.
- Provide subject matter expertise and advice on potential privacy implications of the agency’s activities.
- Develop Personal Information Banks (PIBs) or register Standard Personal Information Banks as required.

Privacy Risk Mitigation and Continuous Improvement :
- Develop risk mitigation plans to respond to recommendations resulting from privacy-related investigations, audits, and Privacy Impact Assessments.
- Develop continuous improvement strategies for the safeguarding of personal information.

Privacy Policy and Program :
- Support the Manager in the development of a privacy program, including privacy training, incident management, compliance, and policy development.
- Assist in the development of key corporate privacy documents that support and articulate corporate privacy objectives in line with the agency’s legislative or regulatory requirements.
- Help facilitate privacy training for management and staff to increase awareness and communicate the importance of meeting privacy requirements throughout the organization.

Research :
- Conduct research and provide analysis and recommendations regarding emerging privacy trends, best practices, and regulations.

Partnerships and Stakeholder Relations :
- Liaise with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in order to facilitate the team’s service delivery and maintain awareness of emerging trends, including preparing correspondence as required.
- As subject matter expert, provide advice and recommendations to the Manager and Branch leadership as required.
- Foster and maintain relationships with government policy leads and industry stakeholders.

Access to Information and Privacy :
- Provide guidance to the Senior Advisor, ATIP (Access to Information and Privacy) in treating Personal Information Requests.
- Support the team’s other functions, such as processing ATIP requests, if required.

Requirements

You are the ideal candidate if you are/have:

- Graduated from a recognized college or university with a specialization in public administration, law, social sciences, accounting, or another specialty relevant to the duties of the position;
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a privacy environment;
- Knowledge of privacy methodologies and processes;
- Knowledge of and experience applying the Privacy Act;
- Experience leading projects;
- Experience researching, collecting and synthesizing information into a concise and cohesive summary;
- Experience writing and preparing policies, Privacy Impact Assessments, reports, briefing notes, plans and other documents;
- Experience working in a policy advisory capacity or similar service;
- Experience liaising with key stakeholders and preparing presentations and reports for senior management and external stakeholders.
- Ability to persuade, engage and influence others;
- Strong teamwork skills used within the internal team as well as in cross-functional teams;
- Strong communication skills, both orally and written; ability to tailor communications to suit a wide variety of audiences;

An asset:
- Knowledge of the aviation industry and related regulatory and security issues;
- Knowledge of Crown corporation governance;
- Knowledge of the Financial Administration Act;
- Knowledge of the Privacy Act and Access to Information Act;
- Experience facilitating training sessions or promoting programs, policies or practices.

Other Requirements :
- Ability to work overtime as required;
- Ability to travel as required;
- Bilingual (BBBB);
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance;
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
