Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a Tax Associate - Planning with a minimum of 3 years of pertinent tax experience to join the existing team of this well established law firm. This Associate will be involved re: implementation of private company reorganizations and they will prepare tax memos and opinions within this collaborative and warm firm atmosphere.


Responsibilities

•Research and analyze different tax matters to assist with planning and litigation mandates;
•Draft legal opinions and participate re: tax planned reorganizations - share transfer agreements, shareholders' agreements, trust deeds, wills, protection mandates, etc.;
•Review commercial transaction documents re: tax compliance;
•Manage client files;
•Communicate and draft representations to the tax authorities re: audits, objections and access to information files;
•Assist the litigation team re: the preparation of motions and negotiation settlements; and
•Assist and advise firm members re: recent tax developments.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have/be:

•A member in good standing of the Quebec Bar, Chambre des Notaires or a Chartered Professional Accountant;
•A Masters or Certificate in Tax In-depth Tax Program, is considered an asset;
•Pertinent tax knowledge and experience;
•Strong analytical skills, research and drafting abilities;
•Able to work autonomously, be organized and able to handle competing priorities;
•Strive for excellence and work effectively in a team dynamic; and
•Bilingual
